How Finding My Voice Set Me Free: My Journey to Leaving a Toxic Relationship

For years, I thought I couldn’t leave my relationship.

I told myself I wasn’t strong enough. That I had tried before and failed. That I couldn’t say the words and make them final.

At least once a year for the last four years of my six-year relationship, I attempted to walk away—only to be guilted, gaslit, and pulled back in.

But the truth? I was losing myself.

I was overgiving, drained, and disconnected from my body. I felt trapped in my home, my life, and worst of all—I had lost my voice.

The Breaking Point: Seeing My Future Without Him

Every attempt to leave had ended the same way. But this time, something was different.

I gave myself a one-week deadline to decide if I was staying or going. And within two days, it was like a switch flipped in my brain.

For the first time, I could see myself alone—and I wasn’t afraid of it.

In fact, I could see me thriving. And even if I spent the rest of my life single, I knew I could be completely happy and free.

Because for the first time, I truly saw how little I was being valued, how much I had given up for this person, and how much I had lost of myself along the way.

I didn’t feel love anymore.
I didn’t feel guilt anymore.
I didn’t feel like staying anymore.

When I looked at him, I felt nothing—except the clarity that it was time to walk away.

Saying the Words That Changed Everything

But knowing I needed to leave didn’t make it easy.

When the moment came, I was shaking with fear. My entire body resisted.

So, I did the one thing that had always made me feel safe: I took a deep breath, filling my lungs the way I would before a singing performance.

The words still shook as I said them, but I got them out:

❝I don’t want this anymore.❞

And just like that, everything changed.

Reclaiming Myself, My Body, and My Voice

Was it easy? No. But it was easier than staying.

With every passing day, I started to feel myself returning:

✅ I reconnected with my body and dropped over 30 lbs in 3 months.

✅ I fell in love with movement for the first time in my life.

✅ I started singing again—and performed for my 8K+ audience online (who didn’t even know I could sing!).

✅ I rebuilt my business from a place of fulfillment, helping people find freedom in their voice.

✅ I invested in myself and got coaching from my dream mentor, Nicole Cherie Hesse.

✅ I became fearless in speaking up and standing firm in what I deserve.

Why Was It Different This Time?

This time, I was willing to see my worth.

I was willing to believe in my own happiness. To see future me thriving and claim that life for myself.

For so long, my story had been one of struggle, survival, and self-sacrifice.

But the truth is—I was never meant to suffer.

And neither are you.

Finding Freedom Through Your Voice

The most powerful thing I did for myself wasn’t just leaving—it was finding my voice again.

Your voice is more than just the words you speak. It’s the embodiment of your truth, your worth, and your desires.

When you reconnect with your voice, you reconnect with yourself.

And that’s where true freedom begins.

If you’re feeling stuck, unheard, or lost in a life that no longer serves you—know that there is another way.
